It wont however, run the game as well as if you were plugged in to the AC. This will force the system to use the Nvidia card for that game. Then go down to Power Management Mode and choose Prefer Maximum Performance. If you have to game on battery only, then set the Nvidia control panel to Manage 3D settings> Program Settings (tab) and select the game from the drop down list. You should be plugged in to the AC cord so the system doesnt throttle the cpu to save power. Know that gaming is not recommended on battery only. It will save your battery life if it uses UHD. To make the nVidia graphics adapter the primary graphics processor on the system, open up the NVIDIA Control Panel>Manage 3D settings. Personally, I would leave it alone for the moment and test it out.
You can change the way it performs in the Nvidia Control Panel. If you start gaming, the system will auto switch to the Nvidia card.
When you're doing simple tasks, the system will run the monitor on the UHD graphics. It uses Optimus (the newest form of switchable graphics) to automatically switch between integrated and discrete graphics as the demand dictates. Your system is doing what its supposed to be doing. When I look at display settings it says the laptop's display is connected to the Intel UHD Graphics 630 which I assume is the mobo/processor on board display adapter.
